Washington, DC. The Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated participated in this year’s Rock and Roll half Marathon a 13.1 miles run. The chapter brothers volunteered and leveraged this event as a vehicle to raise money for the St Jude Research Hospital for cancer research for children.

This was a successful event as noted by not only the brother’s successful completion of the 13.1 miles run, but also the event garnered donations totaling $1,560. Along with the Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter’s contribution of $500, that brings the total to $2,060. Overall, this event raised over $ 325,000 for the St Jude foundation.

Because of the generous contributions, St Jude foundation will be able to continue their efforts to defeat childhood cancer, combat life-threatening diseases, and provide treatment to children with low – mid income and support to their families at NO COST.  Additionally, through these fundraising efforts, the St Jude Children’s Research hospital has been able to increase the childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to 80%, since it was opened over 50 years ago.

The Representatives (Ms. Leticia Barr and Kathleen Davis) of the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital voiced their appreciation to the brothers of Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter of The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and look forward to our continued support in the future.

PSI ALPHA ALPHA’S 1ST BLOOD DRIVE FOR 2018

Arlington, VA. This year the Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated co-sponsored and provided operational assistance to Washington-Lee High School. This marks the first time that the chapter collaborated with Washington- Lee’s high school student and staff in support of this worthy and impactful event. The chapter brothers volunteered and provided assistance with location setup/breakdown, registration, line control, and overall monitoring of donors. This event serves as first of the many Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter blood drives to commemorate the work and spirit of our brother, the Honorable Charles Drew.

This yearly blood drive was very important in the community, as it provided the students, staff, and any other volunteers an opportunity to donate blood via the INOVA Health System blood donation team for patients in need throughout the community. This service was provided free of charge and was open to the public.

This was a successful event as noted by the 114 donors. There were initially 118 student consent forms and 10 teachers/staff who volunteered, in addition to three walk-ups for an initial anticipated 131 participants.  The collected results consisted of 87 blood products, (61 whole blood and 26 double blood). In the end, the efforts will benefit an estimated 261 patients.

The organizer (Ms. Timica Shivers) of the Washington-Lee High School voiced her appreciation to the brothers of Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and look forward to our continued support in the future.
