On Saturday, August 29, 2020, the Brothers of the Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter, an unincorporated chapter of The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.’s conducted our third annual community Health Fair. This year we partnered with the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc-Omicron Theta Zeta chapter to expand our reach to the community we serve. As a result of the current COVID-19 environment, the health fair was hosted VIRTUALLY. Health Initiatives is a primary area of focus for both of our organizations. It is designed to provide uplift to our communities by facilitating and coordinating activities that both inform and promote good health practices. Some of our program’s components are the Charles Drew Blood Drive, support to Saint Jude’s Children Hospital, and partnership with the American Diabetes Association.
The Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter along with the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc-Omicron Theta Zeta chapter coordinated this event to provide relevant healthy informational topics, instructions on nutrition and healthier cooking, and various forms of exercise. The event was a huge success demonstrated by the 4000 plus people being reached during and post the event. The chapters raised $500 via various business sponsors that will be used to support organization’s youth scholarships. The health fair was hosted via Zoom and shared via both the Psi Alpha Alpha and Omicron Theta Zeta chapter streamed the event via Facebook live. Raffles was conducted throughout the event to keep the participants and guest engaged. The service organizations did an outstanding job at providing our community residents, families, and friends with valuable information they can use to empower themselves and becoming more knowledgeable regarding how to achieve and maintain a healthier lifestyle. Some of these Health services included: prostate cancer, breast cancer, mental health, nutrition, healthier cooking, diabetes, line dancing, and Zumba. Additionally, another covered area was domestic violence.
We pray you found this event to be uplifting and beneficial as it relates to improving your fitness goals, knowledge, and health. Special appreciation goes out to all our partners, service provides, volunteers, sponsors, and attendees, without you this event would not have been possible. We look forward to seeing you at future events.
