Making a Social Action Impact at the International Leadership Conference, July 13, 2023
The Dr. Moses C. Norman, Sr., International Leadership Conference was held from July 11-16, 2023, at Atlantis Paradise Island, Nassau, Bahamas. The Social Action project for the conference was a Book Drive for the Island residents.
Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter responded by donating 360 third-grade age-appropriate books from our "Reading for Success" Program. We were delighted that our long-running reading program with the Riverside Elementary School in Alexandria, Virginia, could readily accommodate this late request.
We made out donation on July 13, 2023, at the program's kickoff. The chapter's leadership was included in the Fraternity's Kickoff Video that will be posted on their website. To our surprise, the Grand Basileus, Brother Ricky Lewis, 1st Vice Grand Basileus, Brother Mark Jackson, and the International Social Action Chairman, Brother Derrick Ivory, were at our donation. The chapter was represented by four Brothers: Myron McDaniels, Basileus; Marvin Chisolm, our Foundation President; Kenneth Younger, Social Action Chairman; and Jeffery Owens, Social Action Committee Member.
Talk about luck and timing; we hope our donation will have the same impact on some of the recipients of our books when distributed by the local Omega Chapter – Pi Xi.
