The Social Action Committee of Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. recently concluded its final Walt Whitman Middle School Family Market of the school year, marking the completion of another impactful season of service to families throughout Fairfax County.
Throughout the year, Brothers of Psi Alpha Alpha worked alongside students, faculty, community volunteers, and the Capital Area Food Bank to help provide nutritious food and household staples to approximately 250 families each month. What many community members see as a seamless food distribution event is the result of significant preparation and teamwork behind the scenes.
Before families arrive, volunteers unload pallets of food, sort and organize products, arrange items into market-style aisles, and ensure the site is safe and accessible. Affectionately known as the chapter’s “Muscle Team,” the Brothers consistently provided the manpower and logistical support necessary to make each market a success.
The impact of the Family Market extends far beyond the distribution of food. The program helps alleviate food insecurity, provides access to fresh and nutritious options, and supports families facing rising food costs and economic challenges. Equally important, it demonstrates the power of community partnerships working together to address local needs.
For many families, the market serves as a reliable source of support and stability. For the Brothers of Psi Alpha Alpha, it represents an opportunity to live out the Fraternity’s commitment to service and uplift through meaningful action.
As another successful year comes to a close, the chapter remains grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside Walt Whitman Middle School and the Capital Area Food Bank. The relationships built, the families supported, and the lives impacted are lasting reminders of what can be accomplished when organizations unite around a common purpose.
The Brothers of Psi Alpha Alpha look forward to continuing this important work in the years ahead, remaining steadfast in their mission to strengthen communities and improve lives throughout Fairfax County.
Service is not simply what we do. It is who we are.
