Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter culminated its support with the FBES’ Food Market during the fourth and final month of the program this school year. This community social action project supported 183 military families this month with the help of our “Muscle Team.”
The project is a massive logistical effort on the front end to remove all the food from the Capital Area Food Bank pallets, unpack, sort, and place on tables so the customers can walk by and select the desired food items. Since this is an elementary school, the students are too young to volunteer, so our assistance is requested to report early and assist in unloading and setting up the food on the tables.
In its fourth month, the program is operating smoothly and is postured to become even better the next school year. The customers selected from over 25 items such as fruit, vegetables, canned goods, etc., set up like a supermarket aisle. On June 9, 2023, we provided three veteran volunteers: Brothers Philip Benjamin, Benzell Floyd, and Kenneth Younger. As we get a break for the summer, we know that 655 military families have benefited from our 32 hours of voluntary service at the FBES Food Market.
