The Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., in partnership with the Bernie L. Bates Foundation, Inc., successfully concluded its Reading for Success Program for the academic year with a final Read-Aloud session at Riverside Elementary School on Friday, May 8, 2026.
Eleven Brothers and Foundation Directors participated in the session, engaging students through an interactive reading of “Buddy Ran Away” by Thea Feldman. The program, designed to strengthen literacy skills and foster a love for reading, provided students with an opportunity to actively participate by reading aloud, answering questions, and building confidence in their abilities.
Throughout the session, students demonstrated enthusiasm and growth, reflecting the program’s impact on improving reading proficiency and encouraging academic engagement. The presence of consistent mentors also reinforced the importance of positive role models in educational development.
The Reading for Success Program is a cornerstone initiative for Psi Alpha Alpha and the Bernie L. Bates Foundation, aimed at supporting youth development through education and mentorship. By investing time and resources in literacy, the program helps students build a strong academic foundation while inspiring lifelong learning habits.
As the school year comes to a close, the Brothers extended their encouragement to all students preparing for upcoming Standards of Learning (SOL) assessments, emphasizing the importance of focus, perseverance, and continued academic growth.
With another successful year completed, the Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter and BLB Foundation remain committed to empowering young minds and strengthening the community through education, mentorship, and service.
