On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, the Psi Alpha Alpha (PsiAA) Chapter of the Third District of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. attended and participated in the Fairfax County (VA) Board of Supervisors monthly meeting to support the proclamation for Fatherhood Awareness Month. Bro. James Cherry, PsiAA Vice Basileus, represented the chapter as he has been a volunteer facilitator with the Father Engagement Unit for over nine years.
The morning began with a reception hosted by the Father Engagement Unit that was attended by members of the Board of Supervisors to include Chairman Jeffrey McKay and Supervisor Rodney Lusk. During the formal meeting, the request for the proclamation was put forward by Chairman Jeffrey McKay and was fully endorsed by all members of the Board of Supervisors. The acceptance of the proclamation was done by Darelle Corsey, a recent graduate of the Dad’s Parenting sessions. Darelle spoke on his background, some of the topics that were covered, and why the classes held such importance for him.
The Dad’s Parenting program serves to enhance fathers’ overall parenting and fathering skills as well as promote and celebrate the importance of fathers in Fairfax County. Held virtually, the weekly Dad’s Parenting classes have been safe spaces for the men to go over items such as What It Means to be a Man, Men’s Health, Discipline, Domestic Violence, and others. The Chapter’s involvement has helped increase Fairfax County DFS’ capacity to meet the needs of fathers in Fairfax County, as well as educate fathers about the critical roles they play in the lives of their children.
