On November 14, 2023 the brothers of the Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the Fairfax County Ques, re-established its mentoring presence at the Gum Springs Community Center in Alexandria, VA. The chapter’s MANUP program is conducted at three area high schools and now returns to a neighborhood gathering spot after a hiatus due to COVID.
Psi Alpha Alpha members partnered with Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) of Fairfax County, VA and local volunteers to coach, teach and mentor 7th through 11th grade Black male students about “What is the measurement of a man” focusing on respect, integrity and leadership. After viewing and discussing an informative video on male emotional growth, the students received instruction on boxing as a form of self defense to build confidence.
NCS Assistant Director Roan Harris thanked the brothers that participated in the day’s session. The Omegas “help with adding their insight and experience with traveling the journey from boyhood to manhood.” The brothers look forward to the next session at the community center.
